Pay it Forward is a new program by Westlake Meals on Wheels that starts today. We’ve all heard the phrase “Pay it Forward” before, but before I tell you about the exciting way you can participate in the well-being of your neighbor, allow me to introduce a couple that brought the true meaning of the phrase to life for me.
Helen and John’s Story
The wife is 86 and the husband is 89, one day in early spring this year, they called our Westlake Meals on Wheels kitchen to inform us that they were stopping their meal delivery. Following normal procedures to stop meal deliveries, our Coordinator inquired as to the reason why. The wife said that they enjoyed our meals and their delivery person but that she and her husband had to decide to either continue with the meal deliveries or have their grass cut.
It saddens me, every time I think about this couple at this stage in their lives, that they had to make the decision to receive meal deliveries or get the grass cut.
We all have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends that hopefully will never have to be in a similar situation. This is only one of the too many stories like this and that is why we are reaching out to you and asking for your help to Paying it Forward and help a neighbor in need.
By caring for your neighbors, you are creating a stronger, more vibrant community, where our neighbors can remain in their home and out of expensive nursing home or hospital care. To read more about the status of Ohio seniors, click here. Currently, we serve the five communities in western Cuyahoga County ( Bay Village, Westlake, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, and Olmsted Township ). We are very appreciative of your generosity in helping to support our mission.
Please act now!
We proudly serve over 600 meals a week and delivered a total of 31,200 meals throughout the community in 2018. We have over 150 of the best volunteers that help in the kitchen or drive the meals to the recipients.
We are an IRS certified 501(c)(3) non-profit, that receives no government funding. Our Mission is to furnish two nutritious meals Monday through Friday, combat social isolation and address safety hazards to our neighbors and provide peace of mind for families of the convalescing, disabled and elderly, who are unable to cook for themselves.
