Our Mission: Combat isolation and malnutrition while supporting independence and security
Westlake Meals on Wheels helps residents of our service area — Westlake, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township –needing nutritional support on a short-term or long-term basis. We are a non-profit community service organization helping individuals with medical or aging issues. We help clients live independently despite personal limitations.
Westlake Meals on Wheels is not government subsidized. We are funded through reasonable meal service fees plus generous community donations.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, our head cook supervises a team of volunteer kitchen assistants who prepare a wide variety of tasty, nutritious meals. They are delivered by dozens of volunteer drivers in their own vehicles. We have been cooking and delivering meals to the home-bound since 1975.
Our nutrition program provides more than a meal; we offer caring contact, security and peace of mind. The benefit of our program reaches beyond the recipients and families we serve. One year of meal delivery is less than the cost of one day in a hospital or skilled nursing facility, saving thousands in tax dollars.
Nutritious Meals Delivered Five Days a Week
With a small army of volunteers, we prepare meals daily and deliver five days a week. Unlike some services that deliver frozen or prepackaged meals, we pride ourselves in cooking meals each day. Our meals are cooked with the same care as you would in your own kitchen!
One delivery each day brings both a hot and cold meal which do not require reheating. Deliveries are made between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Special dietary accommodations are available by doctor’s order through St. John’s Medical Center.
We can’t deliver on our promise without your help! Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks and with flexible hours. The core of our volunteers helps with meal preparation and delivery. However, the organization has other needs such a grant writing, promotion creation, special event planning, phone calls and many other things.
Have a special talent? Let us know and we can probably use it!
Running an operation such as ours takes community support. Most of our recipients are on a fixed income. This means we can’t pass on the full cost of running Westlake Meals on Wheels and depend upon your generous donations. For most individuals, this is usually a money donation or shopping online using Amazon Smile. For our corporate donors, we also accept (and encourage) in-kind donations of goods and services. Westlake Meals on Wheels is a 503(c) non-profit so your fiscal donations, services, and goods may be tax deductible. For more information on making a donation, click here.
